99 Days of Freedom

I did it. Finally.

I clicked ʻsign offʻ on my computer, deleted the app from my phone...ALL the apps from my phone, and Iʻm hoping that I wonʻt look back.

As of, like, 10 minutes ago I am taking a Facebook break.

I do this every year for a few weeks or months at a time and it just felt like now was the right time to do it. I had been fed up with the whole social media, particularly facebook, for a while now. And with Christmas right around the corner, I decided that it was time for a break.

Now, donʻt get me wrong--in the right contexts, social media is great! Iʻve loved being able to keep up with parents who moved to the mainland and friends from across the world that I met on my Disney College Program. I also used Facebook to keep up with local and national news stories, as well as for keeping up with my Younique and Usborne businesses. Iʻve also used FB to find mommy friends and other mommy groups. Itʻs great.

But I just need a break. Because for all the great and wonderful things about facebook, there are some not so great things as well.

Itʻs draining.

So, Iʻm logging off for 99 days (at least) as part of the 99 Days of Freedom campaign. Basically, the goal is to log out of FB for 99 days and to spend all that time that you would be Facebooking doing other things! Iʻve tried it once before and didnʻt quite make the 99 days, but this time I am determined.

What will I be doing with my 99 days? Honestly, I havenʻt given it much thought yet since I literally just decided that I was doing all of this like 10 minutes ago. But Iʻll probably focus on spending the time with my kid, getting the house nice and organized, and living in the moment. Oh, and Iʻll probably read a lot, too.

I have the phone numbers of the people that are most important to me, Iʻll still be on instagram every so often, and I downloaded local and national news apps to my phone. I think Iʻm set!

Have you ever taken a social media break? How did it go for you?

  1. What a great idea! I don't know if I could do that...I love checking in once a day or so during the week though I don't HAVE to....maybe I"ll try giving up FB for Lent.
